ASICS Relay has successfully started its 2019 South-East Asian race series with its kick-off event in Jakarta. Armed with a brand-new logo and South Korean singer, Park Sang-Hyun a.k.a Thunder as the regional ambassador, this race will be followed by those in Bangkok, Thailand (3 August), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (7 September), and Singapore (26 October).
Held on the 29th June at Indonesia Convention Exhibition BSD, the third year of the ASICS Relay series welcomed a total of 3,200 participants, racking up a total of 800 teams including Thunder’s very own team. Local celebrities Sahila Hisyam, Enzy Storia, and Tissa Biani teamed up as “ASICS Dream Team”.
Featuring two race distances – 42KM Full Marathon and 21KM Half Marathon, the ASICS Relay sets itself apart from regular races as it emphasizes teamwork over individual performance. In order to complete the race, each team of four members will run an assigned portion of the race distance, before passing a relay token to the next teammate for them to carry on the rest of the race distance.
Before the race, participants were able to explore the race village filled with an exciting stamp collection activation, where participants can collect stamps from ASICS and sponsors’ booths after finishing activities to get exclusive ASICS shoe-laces. One of the activities involved getting participants to run as far as they can within 2 minutes on a treadmill using the brand new GEL-Nimbus 21 shoes. A pop-up booth selling ASICS’ latest merchandise was also present there.
ASICS Relay Jakarta 2019 closed on a high note with the 42KM Full Marathon winning team walking away with the grand prize of Rp. 10.600.000 and 4 pairs of ASICS Shoes.
