Tory Burch SS 2020: The British Lady

Story By
Cita Arsita Farani

Bringing together English floral aesthetics and a unique take on the 80s.

Taking a cue from the iconic Diana Spencer, more commonly known as Lady Di, Tory Burch has been inspired by her style, fearlessness, intelligence, and humanity most of all. The designer admires Diana’s legacy of giving back, which has been instilled in the company since the beginning.

For the collection, English garden florals, stripes, and plaids dominate the motifs, combined gentle silhouettes and influences from the 80s. Blouson shapes, billowy trousers, and tailored pieces offer a sense of nonchalance and the easy exuberance of the era. Expect delicate pastels seamlessly mixed with earthy neutrals and warm bursts of electric colors. There’s a subtle play on texture and shine, from crisp chiné taffeta to plaid-woven fine tulle to iridescent silk jacquard with trapunto stitching. For the accessories, PVC-covered Lee Radziwill handbags and pumps are finished with oversized bows, while top-clasped handbags telegraph ladylike polish.
