Exploring the Arts of JOALI Maldives

Story By
Cita Arsita Farani
Art-immersive resort JOALI Maldives presents an exclusive Art Map, inviting the guests to delve into the creative art pieces incorporated into the island's surrounding nature. Art and concept curators Zeynep Ercan and Asliala Onur of Istanbul-based company No LaB, are behind the JOALI’s international roster of guest artists. From sculptures to design and experiential pieces, No LaB selected pieces combining art, experience and human interaction, and more importantly capturing the nature both visually and materially.

Among them are the Manta Ray Tree House and the whimsical Grey Heron hanging chairs by Porky Hefer. Inspired by the manta rays found all over the Maldives, the tree house is placed high above the ground with the 'tail' as the walkway, seating up to 10 guests for a memorable dining experience. Misha Kahn presents the Club Tropicana Table which uses a combination of vibrant-coloured and pale mosaic tiles to reflect the coral bleaching occurring in the ocean. Overlooking the beach, it is also the perfect location for sunset drinks and spectacular dining experiences. Meanwhile Zemer Peled aims to show the beauty of the underwater world in an unexpected way through the intricate Maldive Vibes, a sculpture with undulating shape and rich color palette.

Looking forward, JOALI will continue to offer unconventional luxury through the lens of the resort’s “Joy of Living” philosophy and captivate the immersive art experience by expanding on the art collection in the in-room art decoration, artist workshop, experiential dinners and the Art Studio & Gallery.
