The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia was successfully held on the newest Mandalika International Street Circuit on the island of Lombok. The circuit, which previously hosted a WSBK race event, underwent major tarmac treatment after the preliminary rounds proved that more work was needed to cater to the expectations of a MotoGP race day. Heavy rain caused the race to be postponed by 2 hours and even reduced the total lap count from 27 to 20 laps.
The series was won by Miguel Oliveira of Red Bull KTM, followed by Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco of Pramac Ducati in 2nd and 3rd. Quartararo, who started on pole position, seemed to be troubled by the track’s wet condition and fell into 3rd position behind Ducati Lenovo’s Jack Miller and Oliveira, followed closely by Suzuki Ecstar’s Alex Rins. Oliveira dominated the race entering the fifth lap and remained in the lead until the finish. Miller, however, had to suffer being shadowed by Rins, Zarco and Quartararo who managed to find his footing and return to 2nd position at the end of race followed by Zarco in 3rd.
